Children’s Foundation for the Arts: Performing Arts Scholarships Available

Applications are now being accepted for the 2007 Children’s Foundation for the Arts scholarships. The Children’s Foundation for the Arts is a grant-making organization dedicated to supporting talented young performing artists who lack a caring grandparent relationship in their lives. The organization recognizes that children who are deprived of the important and unique bond that a grandparent can provide are at an emotional disadvantage. The Children’s Foundation for the Arts, established in 1994, has been significantly endowed through the generosity of Mr. Ira B. Brown, a retired businessman, philanthropist and resident of Houston. Each year, the Foundation provides approximately $150,000 in grants to young performing artists. The Foundation is currently seeking applicants, between the ages of 9 and 17, for the 2007 grant season.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate talent and dedication to a performing arts discipline, including dance, instrumental music, voice or drama. Candidates must also prepare a brief essay discussing their memories of their grandparents. Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2007. Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview and an audition, to be held in the early spring of 2007. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for May 6, 2007.

Contact the Foundation office at (201) 288-5301 or email at cfa.nj@verizon.net. We will be happy to speak to you further about the Foundation or the application process.
